the little journal Issue 3: Mystery and Suspense SUBMISSIONS CLOSED

Submissions are NOW CLOSED for issue three of the little journal, WA’s first and only dedicated flash fiction journal that proudly celebrates a different genre with each issue.

Thank you to every writer who submitted a story. We received an impressive number of entries–over 100! We can’t wait to read your short, short stories and bring another thrilling edition of the little journal to life!

Our guest editor for Issue 3 is Josh Kemp, award-winning author of Australian gothic and crime fiction.

In 2021, Josh won the 2021 Dorothy Hewett Award, the 2022 Ned Kelly Award for Best Debut Crime Fiction, and the 2023 Western Australian Premier’s Prize for Best Emerging Writer for his first novel, Banjawarn (UWAP).

Josh’s second novel, Jasper Cliff (Fremantle Press), was shortlisted for the Fogarty Literary Award, the Aurealis Award for Best Horror Novel and the Australasian Shadows Award for Best Novel.

In 2025, Josh won the SD Harvey Award for his short story, Night Riders.

Josh lives in the South West of Western Australia but finds himself drawn over and over again to the red dirt of the state’s north.

Issue 3 will feature Mystery and Suspense stories. Thirty writers will be selected and published in Issue 3 with a launch scheduled for November.
