New Partnership with Indigenous Literacy Foundation

We are excited to announce our partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), in which Night Parrot Press will donate 10% of future book sales to the Foundation.

In addition, throughout the month of September, we will donate 30% of sales of our current book, ‘Once: a selection of short short stories’ to the ILF to help raise awareness of Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday 2 September.

For children living in remote Indigenous communities in Australia, books and literacy resources are not always available. The ILF is committed to providing books and other invaluable support to remote communities for building strong foundations in reading, writing and sharing stories. Since 2011, they have gifted over 440,000 new, culturally appropriate books to over 400 communities, 40% of which are by Indigenous authors or illustrators. They have also worked with Families as First Teachers (FaFT) and playgroups to organise early-years storytimes (in both Indigenous languages and English) and fostered writing programs with children and adults with the aim of publishing and celebrating Indigenous stories.

This statement from the ILF particularly resonates with us:’We can all help change the narrative, by actively engaging in education on Indigenous issues and lived experiences, by listening to Indigenous voices, and by advocating for Indigenous rights and causes.’
